Over 112 million FCFA will in the days ahead be distributed to close to 1500 musicians across the national territory who are regularly registered with the Cameroon National Musical Art Corporation, SONACAM.
This is the main information that filtered out of a press conference organized in Yaounde this evening by officials of the corporation.
During the Conference, the Board chair, Ateh Bazore, announced after a meticulous work on a list of more than 5000 members submitted to the Audit Commission for Collective Management Bodies, a total of 1500 regular members were retained to benefit from the pay out.
Each artist shall from next week receive an amount ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 CFA F through bank transfers, while those whose documents were found wanting have been given the opportunity to rectify their status with the corporation.
Ateh Bazore also used the press conference to thank the top management of CRTV, which so far, is the only media organ that has been paying authors rights on a regular basis.
The new management of SONACAM unveiled a project to construct a giant music palace in Yaounde, which will include two ultra modern recording studios, a 1500 capacity hall for live concerts, adjacent halls for rehearsals and offices for the company.
While calling on fellow artistes to remain calm and sirene, the Board chair and his colleagues dissociated themselves from an earmarked protest march to be stage on June 21 by some disgruntled artists.
He added that public authorities have shown enough good fate in assisting SONACAM to get back on its feet and marching will change very little on the status of the musicians.
