Cameroon Banking on Archives to Guarantee Accountability & Transparency

Cameroon is joining the international community to celebrate the 3rd edition of the international archives week from June 7 to 11 2021.
The theme chosen by the international council on archives is “empowering achives” while Cameroon is observing the week on the theme Empowering Cameron’s Archives for good governance in a period of crisis.
This celebration, for the ministry of Arts and culture, is an opportunity to impact on the state of implementation of the national archives policy spearhead by President Paul Biya.

While chairing the launching ceremony of week-long activities in Yaounde today, the minister of Arts and Culture, Bidoung Kpwatt, focused on how access to archives can be used to strengthen the accountability and transparency of governments, and a means of guaranteeing the protection of citizen’s rights.
He added that the day is meant to enforce the adaptation of professionals to the new mode of collaborative, alternative and networking, based on the health crisis situation currently facing the world.

To mark the week, Cameroon has organized a series of conferences and workshops to enlighten the personnel on the different Techniques of preserving documents locally and especially digitally.
The international archives council this year, in particular, has called for intellectual reflections anchored on the framework of policies, professionalism and science.
