UK Parliament Urges Government to Use its Diplomatic Offices to Resolve Crisis in Cameroon

The House of Commons has again expressed concern over the protracted conflict in Cameroon’s North West and South West regions, and has condemned “the deliberate and continued killings of innocent civilians and grave violations against children since 2016”.

The statement is contained in a motion tabled in the House of Commons on February 02, 2021, and signed by 16 members of Parliament.

The motion also evokes figures from the International Crisis Group which reveal that “over 4,000 people have been killed, 765,000 people displaced and four million people have been affected by the humanitarian crisis, and that around 800,000 children are out of schools”.

While reiterating that the Norwegian refugee council has declared the conflict in Cameroon as the most neglected crisis on the planet for the second year running, the members of Parliament called on the UK Government to publicly condemn the violence and bring to light all crimes and injustices committed by both parties in the war.

The members of Parliament have also urged the UK Government to make use of diplomatic measures to ensure a cessation of military activities and to bring all parties in the conflict to the dialogue table, under the mediation of an impartial third party.
