U-17 African Champions 2019: Baby Lions At The Star Building

The Boys of Head Coach, Thomas LIBIIH were received at the Star Building on Friday, 3rd May, 2019 by Prime Minister, Joseph DION NGUTE on behalf of the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul BIYA. During the occasion, the youngsters were decorated with the Medals of Commanders of Sports Merit.


Prime Minister, Joseph DION NGUTE congratulated the Baby Lions of Cameroon as he received them at the Star Building on Friday, 3rd May, 2019 in Yaounde. Speaking on behalf of the Head of State, Paul BIYA, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the youngsters for hoisting the Cameroon flag very high on the African continent with their brilliant performance that was crowned with a second continental trophy in the category. He promised them the support of the government in particular and that of the Cameroonian people at large as they prepare for the U-17 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for Brazil in November this year.


It should be remembered that the Baby Lions of Cameroon beat their Guinean counterparts by five goals to three on Sunday, 28th April, 2019 to lift the trophy. Their overall performance was also remarkable as they lost no single game throughout the competition. They beat Guinea in their first game 2-0, followed up with Morocco 2-1, drew with Senegal 0-0 in the Group Stage. In the semi finals, Cameroon triumphed over Angola 4-3 in post match penalties after a 0-0 tie. By beating Guinea in the final once again, the Baby Lions proved their superiority on the African continent.


Before their reception at the Star Building last Friday, Cameroonians in general and football lovers in particular braved the rains on Monday morning to give the Baby Lions a hilarious welcome from the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport to their hotel.
