Uefa Champions League 2019: Messi Confirms His Status As King Of Football
FC Barcelona of Spain have taken their Champions League destiny into their hands by inflicting a 3-0 spanking on visiting Liverpool FC this Wednesday, 1st May, 2019 in Spain in the first leg of this year’s Champions League Semi Finals. Lionel Messi confirmed his status as King of Football by scoring two of the three goals of the night. Luis Suarez opened scores at the 26th minute of play before Messi added to the tally at the 75th and 82nd minutes. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Liverpool teammates only had their eyes to observe as their opponents celebrated goal after goal while all their chances were squandered.
During the first half of the game, the Spanish giants made their intentions clear by playing a fast offensive football that put the visitors in great difficulty. The first goal that came at the 26th minute was a fruit of the inadvertence of the Liverpool defenders. The goal served as a wake-up call for the Boys of Jüggen Klopp. They doubled their efforts to equalize but all attempts were futile. The two sides separated on a 1-0 advantage for FC Barcelona.
Upon their return from the dressing room, Mohamed Salah led the Liverpool team in an impressive football show. They did everything beautiful with the ball, literally making all their fans around the world to stand in anticipation of the equalizer that never came. Salah and James Milner came so close twice but failed to concretize. They dominated most of the second half, forcing FC Barcelona to play virtually in their own half and hope for a counter attack to make the difference.
Their strategy paid off. Lionel Messi, the King of Football benefited from a beautiful counter attack and scored the second goal for Barca at the 75th minute. From this moment on, pressure changed camp and Liverpool FC were forced to rush back and defend. The Spanish giants then mounted more pressure and Messi killed the match by scoring the third goal for Barca at the 82nd minute. Mo Salah came close to getting a precious goal away from home at the 83rd minute but instead hit the bar. FC Barcelona would have made it 4-0 at the closing seconds of the encounter if substitute, Dembelé was more realistic.
With a 3-0 advantage, it will take a miracle for the Reds to qualify for the final when they receive FC Barcelona at home next Tuesday, 7th May, 2019. Liverpool FC will have to score four goals in England next week without conceding any or win by the same score of three goals to nothing before hoping for prolongation and subsequently, penalties to go through. The question now is, Will the King of Football and his teammates allow it to happen? Get the answer next Tuesday, same time. It is generally said in football, nothing is impossible. Anything can happen.
