Spurs Sail Through, Man City In Tears, Liverpool Swims
What a night of football in Europe! Dramatic.
Tottenham Hotspur qualify this night for this year’s semi finals of the European Champions League after loosing 3-4 to Manchester City, 4-4 on aggregate. Their away leg goals gave them the edge over Man City after a dramatic 90+3 minutes of crazy football in the Manchester City Stadium.
As early as the 4th minute, Sterling opened scores for the home side, cancelling the 1-0 advantage the Spurs earned last week. Three minutes later, Heung-Min Son got the equalizer, restoring the Spurs lead by two goals to one on aggregate. At the 10th minute of play, Son scored his second goal of the night, increasing the Spurs lead. Just a minute later, Bernardo Silva equalized for Man City. Two goals in sixty seconds, incredible! Sterling again hit the back of the net for Man City at the 21st minute of play. The score line stayed at 3-2 but Man City desperately needed to score another goal to keep their chances of qualifying alive.
The second half was even more entertaining. Sergio Agüero got the much needed goal for Man City at the 59th minute. Spurs kept believing, pressing forward and finally got rewarded as Llorente scored their third goal of the night at the 73rd minute, bringing the game back to 4-4 on aggregate, advantage Tottenham Hotspur. If football fans would remember something big about this particular game, it will be the dramatic role played by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). The Sterling goal at stoppage time that sent Pep Guadiola and Man City fans around the world wild with celebration was ruled out for an off side position. Their joy was cut short and Tottenham Hotspur had to fight on till the last blast of the central referee. Indeed, it was very painful for the City fans as they cruise out at the Quarter Finals stage of the European Champions League this year.
In the other game of the night, Liverpool FC beat FC Porto 4-1 on the night, 6-1 on aggregate with Sadio Mane, Mo. Salah , Roberto Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk on the score sheet. It was an easy ride for the Reds.
