Uefa Champions League 2019: Liverpool And Spurs Win Quarter Finals First Leg.
Liverpool FC beat their Portuguese counterparts, FC Porto with a comfortable 2-0 margin last Tuesday night, 9th April, 2019 at home. The two goals were scored by Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino. While Naby Keita opened scores at the fifth minute of play, Roberto Firmino scored the second at the 28th minute. The Reds had more than one opportunity to increase tally but unfortunately failed to capitalize. They shall therefore be taking a 2-0 advantage to Portugal next Wednesday, 17th April, 2019.
Still on English soil, Tottenham Hotspur edged Manchester City with a narrow but significant 1-0 win at their new arena. The lone goal was scored by Heung- Min Son at the 78th minute. The encounter had more drama as Sergio Agüero missed to convert from a penalty spot at the 13th minute of play. Hugo Lloris denied Agüero and Man City the pleasure of taking the lead early in the game. Another high moment was the exit of Harry Kane halfway into the second half after receiving an ankle injury.
While Jüggen Klopp of Liverpool FC and Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham Hotspur went home smiling, they know that the return leg next Wednesday remain critical for them to pick their qualification tickets for this year’s semi finals of the European Champions League. Manchester City and FC Porto might have lost on the night, their equation is still difficult to solve, especially with Pep Guadiola in the mix.
Later tonight, Manchester United will be taking on FC Barcelona at home. The game promises a lot of fireworks as Lionel Messi and teammates will try to stop Ole Gunner Solksjair and his Boys who have been growing in confidence in Europe these last days. On the other hand, Ajax of Amsterdam will be welcoming Christiano Ronaldo and his teammates of Juventus. After ousting 13-times winner of the European Champions League, Real Madrid earlier this year, Andre Onana and teammates will try to stop Christiano Ronaldo and the Italian giants tonight.
Supporters of Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will have a busy night this Wednesday, 10th April, 2019 as they will be watching their stars to stand out of the crowd and show the world what they are made of! The debate of who is the greatest footballer of this century and the rivalry between supporters of the two players have been rife and further accentuated by the European Champions League.
