Female Lawyers Petition Ub Vice Chancellor Over Sexual Harassment Allegations
The Cameroon chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has addressed an open letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea urging him to take action against complaints of sexual harassment in the institution.
According to the letter, FIDA was approached by a former student of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication who narrated to them the ordeals she went through in the hands of a lecturer of Journalism and Mass Communication in the said University.
The lady in question is not the only victim of the lecherous lecturer who is said to harass female students in the department in exchange for marks.
Information from the open letter says complaints had been forwarded to the office of the Vice Chancellor against the lecturer in question, but no action has been taken against him, even after the said lecturer clashed with one of his victims on Facebook.
The lecturer is instead quoted to have been threatening his victims to dare take the matter forward.
In line with this allegation, FIDA has asked the Vice Chancellor to forward all complaints made against the said lecturer to the State Counsel in Buea for a criminal investigation to be opened so that justice should be served.
