Afcon , Egypt 2019: Cameroon Enters The Competition In Triumph Over Guinea Bissau
Two second half goals from Yaya Banana and Stéphane Bahoken were enough to get three points for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, defending Champions of the African Cup of Nations, in their tournament opener this Tuesday 25th June 2019 in Ismaila , Egypt.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon squandered several scoring opportunities in the first half of the game before getting two vital goals in the second half to claim all three points in their first encounter against Guinea Bissau.
When the game began, the Cameroonians multiplied assaults on the Guinean defenders but failed to convert. Christian Bassogog, Eric Maxime Choupo Moting, and Karl Toko Ekambi all had opportunities to open scores but all their attempts went wide. The Guineans almost stole the show as they came close to scoring more than once.
The tactical changes and coaching of Head Coach, Clarence Seedorf paid off in the 66th and 69th minutes as Yaya Banana and Stéphane Bahoken scored with a header and shot respectively. Several other chances were created but squandered for both teams. Team Captain, Eric Maxime Chopo Moting who was replaced in the last part of the game expressed satisfaction with the performance of his teammates, adding that he is happy to captain the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Ghana and Benin are currently playing the second Group match, with Benin opening scores at the second minute of play. Cameroon will play against Ghana on the second day of play on the 29th of June, 2019.
