Fifa Women’S World Cup, France 2019: Indomitable Lionesses Of Cameroon 'Pushed' Out By England And Var

The last hope of the African continent to have a representative at the Quarter Finals this year has been dashed as Cameroon lost to England on Sunday, 23rd June, 2019 by zero goal to three in a dramatic and controversial style. Once again, the Video Assistant Referee(VAR) played a significant role in eliminating the Africans in the tournament.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have been knocked out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, currently going on in France. They suffered a three – nil defeat to the Three Lionesses of England on Sunday evening. Their elimination means no African team will play the Quarter Finals of the tournament this year.

The Three Lionesses of England had an easy start to the game as they scored an early goal at the 14th minute of play. A back pass to Cameroon’s goalkeeper from her defender led to an indirect free kick for England. Despite the Berlin Wall built by the entire Cameroon team to avoid conceding, Steph Houghton still managed to find space to slide in the first goal for England.

The Girls of Head Coach, Alain DJEUMFA stepped up their game and fought hard to come back into the game but unfortunately failed to score. The hearts of the Cameroon team were broken again at the 45th + 4 minutes when Ellen White got the second goal for England. The Africans could not believe their eyes and protested the decision of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to validate a goal they saw as an off side position. They delayed proceedings for close to four minutes before resuming play.

Despite going down 2-0 at half time, The Indomitable Lionesses were boosted during the fifteen minutes resting period and came back more determined to make Africa proud. At the 48th minute of play, NCHOUT NJOYA Ajara scored for Cameroon but unfortunately, the VAR again ruled it out for an off side position. The Girls of Head Coach, Alain DJEUMFA wept bitterly as their joy was cut short. Despite the demoralizing factor, they were encouraged to play on and fortunately, they did.

Alexandra TAKOUNDA even came face to face with the English goalkeeper but failed to net the ball at the 53rd minute of play. Instead, it was Greenwood who benefited from a corner kick at the 58th minute that sealed the deal for England. With a 3-0 defeat, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will pack their bags for Yaounde, Cameroon with the comfort that they went to France, they saw but failed to conquer despite putting up a strong and spirited fight against England and the Video Assistant Referee(VAR) in the Round of 16!

Thank you , Ghandi ! It's really a pity . I congratulate the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon for their bravery and sportsmanship . Honestly speaking , that NCHOUT NJOYA Ajara goal , disallowed , was a big slap on the African side . I'm glad they didn't walk out of the pitch even when it was obv.

Well narrated bro. It is very clear that Africa is not yet ripe to win any tournament with the whites involved .
