Fifa Women’S World Cup, France 2019: The Super Falcons Of Nigeria Kiss Goodbye To The Tournament

The Nigerian Girls walked out of the tournament this Saturday, June 22, after receiving a three – nill spanking from their German counterparts. The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon now carry the entire African continent on their shoulders as they will try to upset another European opposition when they take on the Lionesses of England on Sunday, June 23 to win a spot for Africa in the Quarter Finals.

The reigning African Champions in female football, the Super Falcons of Nigeria have kissed goodbye to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup currently going on in France. They received a 3-0 spanking from their German counterparts who have now secured the first spot in the Quarter Finals of the tournament.

The first twenty minutes of the game were beautifully controlled by Nigeria. They gave Africans and their supporters all around the world reason to believe. Unfortunately for them, Alexandra Popp benefited from a beautiful cross from a corner kick to place a powerful header that broke African hearts with the curtain raiser at the 20th minute of play.

While the Nigerians were still struggling to wake up from the nightmare of that goal, they conceded a penalty that was transformed into the second goal by Sara Däbritz. The score line remained unchanged until the end of the first half. When the two teams returned to the stadium for the second half, Nigeria controlled the ball and even threatened to reduce scores at the 51st minute. Unfortunately for Nigeria and Africa as a whole, all goal scoring opportunities were squandered.

The last stroke that broke the camel’s back was the 82nd minute goal from Lea Schüller, giving Germany a three nill advantage that could not be easily dealt with.

The exit of the Super Falcons from the tournament now leaves Cameroon with the heavy responsibility of defending the African continent. The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will face the Lionesses of England on Sunday, June 23 as from 4:30 pm, Cameroon time.
