Fifa Women’S World Cup, France 2019: Cameroon And Nigeria In The Round Of 16!

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon and the Super Falcons of Nigeria will be the flag bearers of the African continent in the next round of this year’s competition after a dramatic group stage. Both teams qualified with three points each, after winning just one out of their three games in the first round.

Contrary to popular expectations, the African representatives have braved all odds to progress into the round of 16 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup currently going in France. The African Ambassadors to this year’s tournament included Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa. South Africa is going home after failing to win the least match.

On the other hand, Cameroon lost her first two games against Canada and Holland, by 0-1 and 1-3 respectively. The last game pitting the Indomitable Lionesses to New Zealand was a do or die match. The Lionesses took the lead at the 56th minute through NCHOUT NJOYA Ajara. The same lady scored Cameroon’s goal in the last seconds of additional time.

Meanwhile, Nigeria won her second match against South Korea by two goals to nothing before loosing to host nation, France 0-1 in a highly contested match. Already at the time, many Africans were worried about the chances of any of the African teams going through into the next round. But perhaps, maybe we should clearly say that the African representatives, Cameroon and Nigeria owe their qualification to Argentina and Chile. Argentina held Scotland in a dramatic 3-3 draw on Wednesday, 19th June 2019 and Chile beat Thailand 2-0, a small goal margin that gave the Super Falcons the greenlight to progress.

All in all, Cameroon will now face England while Nigeria will take on Germany in the Round of 16. Knowing fully well that the opponents of the African representatives in the next round all finished on top of their Groups with nine points each, Cameroon and Nigeria will have to double their vigilance, work hard and create another piece of history by eliminating these two European giants in female football. Going forward may be difficult on paper for the Africans, but nothing is impossible for them if they believe. In any case, getting to this stage is worth celebrating and Africans were not ridiculed in France at all.

Thank you very much , Jessica ABEGA ! It's unfortunate Nigeria suffered that major setback in their last outing against France . However , they are qualified for the Round of 16 and we hope they will do the African continent proud . As for your suggestion to pull Africa out of the World Cup , I think that will be ridiculous . Let's keep fighting for equality and justice and one day , Africa will win the World Cup ..

It was a very interesting match with suspends till that last second when Ajara lifted the country's flag high. In fact we all enjoyed every moment of the match. About the Nigerian team, FIFA has to stop this discrimation on African teams during international football games of high importance. It is contantly becoming clear that they favour certain European countries in matches against African teams. We remember the 1990 Cameroon- England quarter finals in the world cup. Many other African teams and even some South American teams have been victims of the FIFA European Mafia. If I were the CAF President, I would withdraw all my teams from the competition after such matches and if FIFA doesn't guarantee fair arbitration in future matches, I will refuse participation of our continent in their matches. It is very discouraging you know. Well, we hope they will one day come to allow the teams play fairly..
